This article walks through the 10 biggest GTA 6 features confirmed in the Edge Magazine preview, explains what each one could mean in practice, and points out what the preview doesn’t tell us yet.

  • GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What Is the GTA 6 Edge Magazine Cover Story?

Edge is a long-running games magazine known for in-depth previews. Issue 430 puts GTA 6 on the cover and includes a 16-page feature built around a studio visit, where the team saw the game in action and spoke with Rockstar staff. As of October 29, 2026, the full cover story has been made available to read on GamesRadar+ with a free community account.

A preview like this is a controlled look at the game. Rockstar chooses what to show, so it is useful for understanding the studio’s goals, but it isn’t the same as playing the finished game yourself.

10 GTA 6 Features Confirmed in the Edge Magazine Preview

1. The Leonida Map Is Enormous

Rockstar describes Leonida as nearly matching the combined playable area of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Those three maps are already large, so that comparison sets high expectations.

Size is only part of the story. Separate teams reportedly built out fictional brands, TV programming, pedestrian behavior, radio commercials and political campaigns on their own, which should make the world feel more layered than a single large landmass. Rockstar’s head of development also said he still finds parts of the map he hasn’t visited, even after years on the project.

2. Public Transport, More Interiors and a Longer Day

Buses and trains are usable by Jason and Lucia, so getting around is no longer limited to driving. Edge also reports far more accessible indoor locations than in any previous GTA game, and a day-night cycle that runs significantly longer than the one in GTA 5.

Roads are narrower than before, which Rockstar says is intentional. The aim appears to be streets that feel more grounded and realistic instead of wide, game-friendly highways.

3. Food and Drink Give You Gameplay Buffs

Small details like consumables now have a practical effect. Coffee boosts stamina and protein shakes provide a health buff. Fuel is quick to fill, and a full tank lasts a long time, which suggests refueling is meant to be a minor detail and not a chore.

4. Jason and Lucia’s Relationship Changes as You Play

Jason and Lucia Relationship GTA 6

Jason and Lucia already share history when the game begins. Their closeness is tracked in real time across four relationship levels, and spending time together develops the bond further. Rockstar has said Red Dead Redemption 2 influenced how this story was written, and the relationship system resembles how that game let you feel Arthur Morgan’s character develop over time instead of only watching cutscenes.

5. NPCs Have Distinct Personalities

NPCs Have Distinct Personalities

Rockstar reportedly built a dedicated team for NPC development. A character’s behavior is shaped by their temperament, aggression level, location, what they have seen nearby, and how you have treated them before.

Neighborhoods also respond differently. In some areas, people will step up and confront you if you do something wrong, while in others they will mind their own business until things get extreme.

6. How You Hold a Weapon Changes How People React

In GTA 6, it isn’t only about having a weapon. It’s also about how you carry it. Holding a gun on your shoulder or holding it out in your hand will read differently to people nearby, and some may challenge you depending on what they see. Since NPCs are designed individually, reactions should vary from person to person.

7. The Criminal Profile System Tracks Your Behavior

Everything you do throughout the game feeds a scale that runs from Professional at one end to Irredeemable at the other. It is shown with angel and devil icons.

According to Edge, this can influence how the story of Jason and Lucia plays out, which would be a first for the series. How violent, reckless or calculated you are could change the narrative you experience, giving players a stronger reason to replay the game with a different style.

8. Police Pursuits Are More Aggressive

The heat system has been reworked. Police now track your location, clothing and accomplices, and K-9 units join pursuits for the first time in the series.

Carjacking also carries more risk. Some drivers carry weapons and will fight back, and some vehicles have tracking devices, so picking the wrong car could lead police straight to you. Robberies are designed to go off-script too: a victim might resist, a bystander might step in, or a rival driver might challenge you to a race mid-escape.

9. You Can De-escalate Before Getting a Wanted Level

You Can De-escalate Before Getting a Wanted Level

In earlier GTA games, there was little you could do once a situation turned bad. GTA 6 changes that in some cases. Dropping your weapon can stop things from escalating before a wanted level starts.

There are also more non-lethal options, such as incapacitating someone, making threats or using intimidation. It won’t always work, but having the option at all is new for the series.

GTA 6 Phone Apps and Vehicle Services

10. Scooter Bros and WAINK

Your in-game phone includes an app called Scooter Bros, which brings your personal vehicle to wherever you are, with any weapons stored in the trunk. That should save you from running across the map to retrieve your car. Another app, WAINK, helps you locate specific vehicles that criminal fences are looking for

GTA 5 vs GTA 6: What’s Different Based on Edge’s Report

The table below compares a few areas where Edge’s preview points to clear changes from GTA 5. It only covers what the preview mentions, and details could still change before launch.

AreaGTA 5GTA 6 (per Edge’s preview)
Map sizeLos Santos and Blaine CountyLeonida, nearly the combined playable area of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2
Day-night cycleShorterSignificantly longer than GTA 5
Enterable interiorsFewer accessible interiorsFar more accessible indoor locations than any earlier GTA
Police behaviorWanted-level systemPolice track location, clothing and accomplices; K-9 units join pursuits for the first time in the series
Player behavior and storyNo system that tracks your overall behavior to shape the storyCriminal Profile system that can influence how the story unfolds

My Take: Bigger Isn’t the Interesting Part

The map size gets the headlines, but I think the Criminal Profile system is the more important detail. GTA games have always let you cause chaos, but the story never really noticed. If your behavior now shapes how Jason and Lucia’s story plays out, that changes what a second playthrough means.

I would stay cautious on some of the rest. NPCs with personalities and reactive police are easy to promise and hard to get right, and a preview with Rockstar staff in the room only shows the best-case version. A bigger map with more systems can also mean more things that don’t work together properly.

My honest view is that this sounds promising, but I would wait for real hands-on play before treating any of it as proven. If the Criminal Profile system works as described, it will matter more than the square mileage.
