Jio displayed FIFA 19 cloud gaming at the AGM 2019 event roughly three years ago. Fast forward to 2022, and the company is finally achieving its objectives. Jio has made the Beta version of its cloud gaming platform available. Jio Cloud Games is an online cloud gaming platform that allows you to play desktop titles on any device (web browser, Android phone, or iPhone) without the need for high-end hardware. If you’re interested in Jio’s cloud gaming service in India, read our Jio Cloud Games explainer to learn about its pricing, hardware requirements, performance, and more. On that note, let’s look at how to use JioGamesCloud in India for cloud gaming.

What is JioGamesCloud Game Streaming?

JioGamesCloud

JioGamesCloud, as the name suggests, is a cloud gaming platform launched by Reliance Jio in India. It’s a cloud gaming platform like Nvidia GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and the now-defunct Google Stadia. Desktop-level games, including AAA titles and casual games, can be played on your smartphone, computer, tablet, TV, or Jio’s STB box without downloading them. The games are installed on Jio’s cloud servers and can be streamed directly to your device. To enjoy graphics-intensive games, you don’t need a high-end PC or a gaming console.

The platform is currently in Beta, and only users who have access to the “Early Access Program” can play games on it. In terms of back-end infrastructure, it appears that JioGamesCloud has partnered with Nvidia and is based on GeForceNow technology. Some Reddit users discovered the GeForce Now integration on Jio’s Set-Top Box (STB).

Aside from that, JioGamesCloud currently does not allow you to connect your Steam or EA library. Only titles that are already available on the platform can be played. That’s unfortunate, but keep in mind that the service is still in Beta, and new features may be added before the stable release. We currently have no information on the server locations. However, we tested JioGamesCloud in Kolkata and New Delhi, and it performed admirably (more on the performance below).

Is JioGamesCloud Free to Use?

JioGamesCloud is currently free to use, and anyone can participate in the Early Access Program to enjoy the available games on their devices. You don’t even have to be a Reliance Jio network user to participate. However, Jio claims that once the platform exits the Beta program, you will be required to pay a monthly fee to play games on JioGamesCloud. So, the JioGamesCloud Beta version is currently free.

There are a few things that users should keep in mind before playing games on the JioGamesCloud platform. They are as follows:

Stable Internet Connection

Cloud gaming, as one might expect, necessitates a steady internet connection. And, according to Jio’s FAQ page, if you have a bandwidth of 20Mbps, JioGamesCloud will run smoothly on your browser or smartphone. Aside from that, a compatible device is required to use the platform and play games on JioGamesCloud.

Compatible OS/ Devices

Jio’s cloud gaming platform is currently available on Android smartphones via the JioGames app, so it’s likely that the service will be available on Android tablets as well. The web app is available for Windows PCs, macOS, and Linux computers. For the time being, iPhone users can stream games from JioGamesCloud using the Safari web app.

I also tested JioGamesCloud on a Chromebook, and it worked flawlessly. That means any modern Windows or Mac browser (likely Chromium-based) can access JioGamesCloud via the web app. If you have Jio’s Set-Top Box, you can stream cloud games to your TV using the JioGames app. However, Android TVs are not yet supported by Jio’s cloud gaming service.

Controller Support

In terms of controller support, Jio claims that you can use any Bluetooth-enabled or wired gaming controller with your device to play JioGamesCloud games. In general, your Xbox or PlayStation controllers will function properly on JioGamesCloud. Jio also sells a separate gaming controller for Rs 3,499, for your information (Buy here).

How to Sign Up and Play Games on JioGamesCloud

If you’re wondering, you can register and play games on JioGamesCloud even if you’re not a Jio customer. It’s currently free to use, but after the Beta program ends, you’ll have to pay a monthly fee. In this tutorial, I’m using a Chromebook (in a browser) to test JioGamesCloud, but the steps are similar for other devices as well. So, let’s take a look at how it works:

  • To begin using JioGamesCloud, go to its official website. Install the JioGames app on your Android phone or Jio’s Set-Top Box (Free). Then, enter your phone number and confirm with an OTP to create a free account.

  • Then, open any game you want to play and press the “Play Now” button.
  • JioGamesCloud will now prompt you to join the “Early Access Program”. Fill in the blanks and press the “Submit” button. The procedure is the same on mobile devices as well.
  • Next, log out and wait 5 minutes for your account to be whitelisted. Now, go ahead and log back into JioGamesCloud. You will be able to play games on JioGamesCloud this time. Choose a game and press the “Play Now” button.
  • A new window will open, and the game will begin to load. To continue the game, press any key here.
  • Choose the resolution (up to 1080p) and bitrate at the bottom (up to 16Mbps). You can also enable or disable the controller by clicking on its icon.
  • The game will now launch, and you can begin playing immediately. The WASD controls and mouse support work perfectly on the desktop. You can also use your controller, and it will connect to it automatically. If you are having problems, you can join the official JioGamesCloud Discord server (visit) to discuss and find solutions.

First Impressions of JioGamesCloud

On a 100 Mbps internet connection, I played a few games on my Chromebook, Windows PC, and Android smartphone, and JioGamesCloud performed admirably. For your information, my location is Kolkata, and the platform currently does not allow you to select a server manually. Shadow Tactics was consistently delivering 45 to 50 FPS in 1080p resolution while running on my Android phone. You can connect a gaming controller for seamless gameplay, but you can also use the on-screen touch controls if you don’t have one. The touch controls are an excellent addition, but they proved to be a little finicky during my brief testing.

I also tried running JioGamesCloud over mobile data (on Airtel’s 4G network), and performance (as expected) suffered. The game stream was switched to 720p resolution, but the frame rate remained near 46FPS. There was also some screen tearing and rubberbanding, as well as a slight delay in responsiveness, which is to be expected with mobile data. However, as the Jio 5G and Airtel 5G networks expand their services in India, cloud gaming on JioGamesCloud will undoubtedly improve.
